What is the best way to remove sunscreen from the exterior of a car?
My 5yo "blessed" my car’s paint job by "protecting" it with her sunscreen in very large patches. Any suggestions on removing it and hopefully not harming the paint any more than it already has been? It took awhile before we realized what she had put on and we’d run it through the car wash a couple of times. Thanks!!
Sunscreen should not harm the clear coat of even the paint. But to remove it should be quite difficult because if its oily property. I would first wash the car using Dawn or other Non-Ammonia based dish washer soap. This should be strong enough to remove the oil. If not, use P21s Total auto wash. Let it dwell on the paint for 3-4 minutes then agitate using a microfiber mitt. Rinse. And if residual sun screen is still remaining, you must clay. If so, use enough lube and adequate pressure (excessive pressure will result in paint marring). Now you must protect the paint using either a sealant or wax, or both if you’d like; the dawn, p21s and claying all remove old layers of wax and as a result the paint/clear coat is exposed to the environment and over time will oxidized quicker then a surface that has been protected.
