Sitting on the edge of the Australian continental shelf near Perth in western Australia, Rottnest Island is just 11 km (6 mi) long and 4.5 km (2.7 mi) at its widest point. An iconic holiday destination for Perth residents, with 70 per cent of visitors coming for a day out, the entire island is run as a nature reserve and the surrounding waters as a marine park.

Known to local Aboriginal people as Wadjemup, the island is believed to be a place of spirits and is of significance to the Aboriginal communities. Artefacts have been found at a number of sites on Rottnest Island which are at least 6,500 years old, and possibly older, so there were indigenous people living here before sea levels rose and the island was separated from the mainland.

The first Europeans to discover the island were Dutch navigators who were searching for a shorter route from the Cape of Good Hope to Batavia in the 17th century. At that time the island was uninhabited. Samuel Volkerson was the first European to actually land on the island in 1658. William de Vlamingh visited in 1696 and named the island Rottnest after the abundance of Quokkas (small marsupials) he saw, mistaking them for rats.

Other Europeans soon followed, believing the island had potential for salt harvesting, farming and fishing. From 1839 for almost a century the island housed a penal colony for Aboriginal men and boys. When the colony closed, the leisure potential of the island was realized and tourism took off.

The island is best explored by bicycle as private cars are not allowed. The 24-km (15-mi) route around the coast runs through some of the most beautiful scenery, passing small, sandy beaches in secluded coves. 2. Caring for those that have less or are in need is a priority to the Freemasons. They are very dedicated to their community and feel it is their responsibility to serve them by way of charity events for example.

3. They believe in living by example. By striving for the truth and maintaining high moral standards. As we pointed out charity is of crucial importance to the Freemasons. They believe they have a responsibility to looking after children that have been abandoned, individuals who are ill, and the seniors. They work hard to be able to donate large sums of money in support of local charities as well as national. The Freemasons society puts several expectations on their membership such as?

(a) All members must adhere and respect the laws of the country they reside in.

(b) Being a member of the Freemasons does not affect the private lives of its members in regards to the social expectations as citizens. It is believed that being a Freemason means to have those expectations strengthened.

Freemasons are strictly forbidden to use any influence they may have as a Freemason for personal gain.

d) His citizen duties must always take priority over any type of relations with fellow members. They are not allowed to protect fellow members who have not acted according to the foundations practices or rules.

There has been much speculation of the secrecy of the Freemasons. They themselves deny any type of secrecy. They state that all members are free to acknowledge themselves as members of the Freemasonry. All of the constitutions and rules are open to the public. Over the years there have been many independent Grand Lodges surfacing. According to the United Grand Lodge of England, some Lodges do not meet the true standards of the Freemasons. These are two areas that go against what the Freemasons stand for. According to the Freemason, members must put God first (although members can use whatever they perceive him as being. Then he is to serve his community but not at the expense of his family.

After I found myself single again, I just didn’t know what to do. I mean, I hadn’t dated in over ten years. I didn’t know how to approach a woman anymore and it seemed like all the women in the clubs were a lot younger than me. I figured I didn’t stand a chance with them. He must have a good background and a belief in God. (This is dependant on the Lodge, some say God other say Supreme Being). There are several informal requirements as well. The candidate?s personal beliefs are important . He must believe in the importance of helping his fellow man. Must have a respect for what others think whether he agrees with them or not. Finally, he must have the desire to excel in his good qualities.

It would seem that one of the rules of being a Mason is that you are not allowed to ask others to join. There is no recruiting for this Fraternity. They stipulate they have reasons for this and that is because being a Mason is a new way of life that should not be pushed upon another. It must be a voluntary act. They feel that recruiting would be pressuring. If one wants to attempt at joining he must ask for an application. It gets filled out then given to a Mason who will present it to his Lodge.

Then the Master of the Lodge arranges for a group of members to visit the applicant and his family to learn about his background and his reasons for wanting to become a Mason. This information is then taken back to the lodge where a vote takes place on whether to accept the applicant. It he has received a positive vote then he will be notified as to a date for the entered apprentice degree. He now will have two other degrees to complete after this one, which will take him to the position of Master mason.

If you were to ask a Mason to define himself, he would tell you that his priority is to feel good about himself. He cares about all facets of time being past, present, and future. His goal is to make the world a better place to live in. This seems to be a never-ending journey so when does the Mason get to come to feel he truly is a Mason. It would seem that when he reaches the point that he can enjoy all that the world contains and accepts that he is only a small part of the scheme of the world and as accepted all that the Masons stand for then he can truly call himself a Mason.

It would seem that the Masons whole belief is becoming the perfect man. It is an ongoing challenge that they strive towards everyday. One wonders if they believe that it?s possible for man to reach that point, and if so, has there ever been such a being in their organization that has accomplished this. Would they place their Grand Master as such a person?
